Since its inception, the Pratham Network has achieved several milestones in its mission to empower children and youth through education.

2023

Pratham Innovations spread to more than 25 countries across the world

2022

Pratham International established to help with the spread of Pratham’s innovations beyond the Indian context

2021

Dr Rukmini Banerji, CEO of Pratham Education Foundation, named the 2021 Yidan Prize for Education Development Laureate.

2020

TaRL programs in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia grow to 10+ countries

2020

Shah PraDigi Shah Innovation center established

2019

Pratham and J-PAL launch the TaRL Africa initiavtive.

2018

Pratham is awarded the LUI Che Woo Prize, a cross-sector innovation prize that recognizes outstanding contributions benefiting humanity.

2017

Pratham launched PraDigi, an interactive mobile app, with content in 12 Indian languages

2017

The TaRL pilot in Zambia, conducted with technical support from Pratham and J-PAL, shows promising results

2015

Pratham started a pilot for tablet-based Hybrid Learning program in village communities

2014

Pratham awarded the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Development Cooperation category

Further RCT evaluations of TaRL in government systems and through Learning Camps showing high impact

Dr. Madhav Chavan was the recipient of the 2012 World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Prize

Pratham and co-founder Dr. Madhav Chavan received the Skoll Award for Social

Pratham is awarded the Henry R. Kravis Leadership Prize, which recognizes excellence in nonprofit leadership

Pratham’s innovations go global with the adoption of ASER in Pakistan and three East African nations - Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda

Massive country-wide outreach through the “Read India” campaign leveraging Pratham’s TaRL approach begins

Pratham UK established

Pratham starts a computer-assisted learning program in partnership with Mumbai municipal schools

1998

Innovations in learning improvement programs begin with the Balsakhi program (remedial program) initiated in mumbai’s municipal primary schools, and replicated in several cities across India

1995

Pratham was founded in Mumbai by Madhav Chavan and Farida Lambay, focusing on preschool education in the city through Pratham Balwadis
